Sending Stones 5e
Wondrous item, uncommon
Sending stones come in pairs, with each smooth stone carved to match the other so the pairing is easily recognized. While you touch one stone, you can use an action to cast the sending spell from it. The target is the bearer of the other stone. If no creature bears the other stone, you know that fact as soon as you use the stone and don't cast the spell.
Once send is cast through the stones, they can't be used again until the next dawn. If one of the stones in a pair is destroyed, the other one becomes nonmagical.
Sometimes you need a phone in your D&D world; in those moments, grab a pair of Sending Stones! They act as a once-per-day short call. It isn’t the most revolutionary tool in the world, but some plans require precise timing, and a pair of Sending Stones can make that happen.
Sending is a 3rd level spell; unlike Spell Scrolls, you don’t need Sending on your spell list, or have any form of the Spellcasting feature to use these.
Sending sends a twenty-five word message to the target. They can respond with their own twenty-five or fewer word message instantaneously.
Sending Stones even work across planes 95% of the time!
