Some Magic Items are a simple upgrade; that is the case with the Sentinel Shield. If you’re a protector looking to keep watch over your party, this fits your character’s dreams perfectly.
It's still a shield, meaning while held in the off-hand, it provides the wielder +2 AC.
You don’t need proficiency with shields to use this for its advantage on initiative rolls or Wisdom (Perception) checks. While wielding it while not proficient with them, though, you’ll be unable to cast spells and have disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws that involve Strength or Dexterity.
Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks provides a flat +5 to your Passive Perception score.
