Prerequisite: 12th level, Pact of the Talisman feature
While someone else is wearing your talisman, you can use your action to teleport to the unoccupied space closest to them, provided the two of you are on the same plane of existence. The wearer of your talisman can do the same thing, using their action to teleport to you. The teleportation can be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and all expended uses are restored when you finish a long rest.
Bond of the Talisman: I’m Just a Phone Call Away
Review by Sam West, Twitter:@CrierKobold
Pact of the Talisman is a new Pact Boon warlocks get access to that gives them a Guidance-like reaction that’s… fine. It’s nowhere near as good as Pact of the Tome or Pact of the Chain out the gate, as both offer you very efficient new toys to play with with robust customization choices, but having an amulet you can just stick on somebody to empower their ability checks is fine. It becomes MUCH better (the whole reason you’d consider it, honestly) when you get access to Bond of the Talisman.
Out the gate, this immediately says to stick the talisman on a buddy instead of yourself. Once this step is completed, either of you can decide to teleport to the other person, regardless of distance, so long as you’re on the same plane. That is a SWEET ability, and you don’t just get to use it once per long rest: you get to use it FOUR TIMES per long rest, scaling up to five or six with your proficiency bonus.
This ability may seem innocuous at first, but my god, is there potential here. Immediately ANY one way travel abilities become group activities. Dimension Door now doesn’t just bring the wizard and the warlock, but also whoever is wearing the warlock’s talisman. Likewise, the wizard can Dimension Door their way into danger, grab a McGuffen, and teleport right back to safety, no questions asked. Have a monk moving at 120 feet per move? Now, you can tag along to wherever they end up! You can get clever with it, passing it around from party member to party member, getting all kinds of exploration opportunities with the warlock acting as a central anchor to pull back whoever is out safely and instantly, regardless of distance.
I love teleportation based abilities, and Bond of Talisman is one of THE coolest to me. It encourages cooperative problem solving in a dynamic way, works together with a huge array of classes and abilities, and helps everyone shine while exploring three dimensional space. This invocation is THE reason to take Pact of the Talisman, and while not game shatteringly powerful, is an absolute delight to use.
