Portal Compass 5e
Wondrous item, Uncommon
This portable arcane instrument points in the direction of the last portal it passed through while it and the portal are on the same plane of existence. If that portal no longer exists, the needle becomes static until the compass passes through a new portal.

Venturing around the planes, but afraid you’ll lose your way home? Then you might be in the market for a Portal Compass!
This item doesn’t require attunement, acting basically agnostic of holder.
As long as the portal exists, this will point to it. If a portal goes dormant, this compass will still point towards it.
The static element of the compass simultaneously acts as a detector to alert you when a portal is destroyed.
Portal Compasses don’t specify extra-planar portals. Spells like Gate and Teleportation Circle count!
