Javelin of Lightning 5e
Weapon (javelin), uncommon
This javelin is a magic weapon. When you hurl it and speak its command word, it transforms into a bolt of lightning, forming a line 5 feet wide that extends out from you to a target within 120 feet. Each creature in the line excluding you and the target must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 lightning damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The lightning bolt turns back into a javelin when it reaches the target. Make a ranged weapon attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes damage from the javelin plus 4d6 lightning damage.
The javelin's property can't be used again until the next dawn. In the meantime, the javelin can still be used as a magic weapon.
Proficiency with a javelin allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

If you’re in the market to juice up your thrown weapon attacks, do I have the item for you. All you need is a decent Strength score and proficiency with simple weapons to wield the power of Zeus and blast your enemies with a Lightning Javelin!
Javelins are 1d6 thrown weapons; when attacking with them, even though it specifies you make a ranged weapon attack, you’ll make the attack roll using your Strength modifier because of the Thrown weapon trait.
Not only does the lightning activation help blast enemies in a line, in a pinch it can act as a range extension, doubling the possible attack range the weapon normally has!
Despite lacking a +1 to hit and damage, Javelins of Lightning still are considered magic weapons, which means they overcome resistance to damage dealt by non-magical weapons.
The creature hit at the end of the attack roll doesn’t take the damage the 4d6 lightning line in addition to the 4d6 and javelin’s normal damage roll. If you miss, it takes no damage.
Because it doesn’t specify the weapon attack is dealing the damage, critical hits made with a Javelin of Lightning don’t double the 4d6 damage portion of it for any creature involved.
