If you love conceptually the double-bladed scimitar AND need to flip an odd Str or Dex AND are playing an elf, sure, Revenant Blade works for you. I think most tables will never consider this, and don’t need to go through the hassle of figuring out what this new weapon does and if it makes sense for the world.
Read MoreGift of the Metallic Dragon 5e
I like feats that give you new toys to play with: Gift of the Metallic Dragon does that. I like feats that encourage cooperation between party members: Gifts of the Metallic Dragon does that. This is a feat I can get behind, with a solid design aimed towards people who want to play defense in a meaningful way.
Read MoreGift of the Gem Dragon 5e
I think I’d have a hard time taking Gift of the Gem Dragon over feats like Fey Touched or Shadow Touched for the spells and modifier, but if you don’t feel like you want those spells, the reaction here probably justifies trying it.
Read MoreGift of the Chromatic Dragon 5e
Gift of the Chromatic Dragon is SWEET. I love feats like this; functionally, you’re getting an elemental non-concentration Divine Favor paired with a bunch of uses of half of Absorb Elements.
Read MoreSquat Nimbleness 5e
Squat Nimbleness gives the smaller races just enough to justify taking it (only with an odd score, though) while “patching” some of the old game rules to better fit modern tables.
Read MoreSecond Chance 5e
Halfings get the best feats. Second Chance is in my top five best feats in the game because oh baby does this feat go hard. It's just one more reason to play a halfling.
Read MoreProdigy 5e
Prodigy is just Skill Expert (proficiency in a skill and expertise in a skill) with a free language and tool proficiency tacked on. That’s it. It’s just expertise in a skill if you’re human related. Well, it would be, if you knocked off the ability score bump Skill Expert gives you.
Read MoreInfernal Constitution 5e
Infernal Constitution is one such feat. You get a +1 Constitution, potentially offering you some extra hit points and a +1 to Con saves if you bump your modifier up, resistance to cold and poison damage, and advantage on saves against being poisoned. All of these words are fine, but none of them are exciting or particularly powerful.
Read MoreFade Away 5e
Fade Away fits cleanly and easily onto the bulk of characters who want Intelligence and Dexterity. Artificers and wizards don’t typically like being hit; having a once per short rest panic button Invisibility is great, especially when it's paired with bumping your odd Intelligence score up to an even one for that +1 modifier bonus.
Read MoreFlames Of Phlegethos 5e
I like Flames of Phlegethos, especially at level 4 on hybrid caster/martial builds using fire consistently. If you’re leveraging spells like Create Bonfire, Burning Hands, Searing Smite, Hellish Rebuke, and Fire Bolt often, this feat will really shine.
Read MoreFey Teleportation 5e
When Misty Step would be good, Fey Teleportation is good. This will feel like you’ve taken a small dip into warlock for a Misty Step pact magic slot you can keep reusing over short rests.
Read MoreElven Accuracy 5e
Elves are pretty, elves are graceful, and elves are accurate. That’s their whole thing. Elven Accuracy takes this concept and runs with it, giving them a mechanic that is yucky good, and attaches it to a free bonus Dex, Int, Wis, or Cha, dealers choice.
Read MoreDwarven Fortitude 5e
Dwarven Fortitude enters then as a tool that asks you to take an action you probably don’t want to take to get to spend a hit dice right then and there. If you ever can get this to be a bonus action, it is excellent in combat; otherwise, this is a way to heal out of combat up to your hit dice in games where short rests are nearly non-existent, and that’s about it.
Read MoreDrow High Magic 5e
If you’re a drow, Drow High Magic can be an amazing boon for your character. Getting access to three spells, one at will and two once per long rest, has a ton of potential. If you want to just have more resources, this is an easy way to get more.
Read MoreTelepathic 5e
Telepathic does a decent job giving you all the tools you’d want to have to be the telepath archetype. You can read minds (ish) and communicate mentally with people. Simple. To the point. Plus, you’re getting smarter, wiser, or more charismatic along the way.
Read MoreTelekinetic 5e
If you want invisible telekinesis powers, Telekinetic offers you that. It probably isn’t worth the bonus 30 feet on your mage hand if you already have it, and the shove, while neat, isn’t often doing much. Still, it comes with an ability score boost, so as long as you’re bumping up an important modifier, this can find a home on your sheets easily.
Read MoreSkill Expert 5e
Shadow Touched 5e
Shadow Touched takes a dark, broody magic that people tend to love, pairs it with one of if not the best 2nd level spell in the game, and tacks on a free ability score point and another free first level illusion or necromancy spell.
Read MorePoisoner 5e
Poisoner makes poison usable in combat. Not needing to waste an action applying something with only a minute duration turns what was a waste of action economy into a meaningful opportunity.
Read MoreSlasher 5e
Slasher doesn’t offer you THAT much; a ten foot slow once a turn is neat, but not particularly useful on melee weapons, and while the critical hit effect is great, it won’t be happening often enough to really sell me on what is happening here.
