Best Feats for Grave Cleric 5e
by Prince Phantom
Despite the seemingly sinister name of this domain, Grave Clerics take very supportive role in the party. Don’t let the word “support” make you yawn though, because this domain supports everything your party does, including dealing damage. Our channel divinity works fantastically with any Rogue, Paladin, or any build that focuses on one big attack.
We also get the ability to negate crits, proving that the best kind of healing is preventing damage all together. All of this combines to make us a Cleric that any party would love to have around, and we should select feats that further this playstyle.
Best Feats for Grave Cleric 5e
War Caster (Lv 4): Sentinel at Death’s Door only works if we are within 30ft of our ally, meaning we are encouraged to play a midline style of caster. This means we will be under fire a bit more often than we might would like, meaning protecting our concentration is increasingly important.
Telekinetic (Lv 8): Since we are already encouraged to be in the midst of combat anyway, we will probably be casting Spirit Guardians pretty frequently, and this feat allows us to make a creature take that damage twice in one round by pulling them into our spell on our turn. The increase to our wisdom and Mage Hand are added gravy.
Fey Touched (Lv 8): Misty Step is a really good spell for clerics as they lack good combat teleportation options, and we definitely want to pick up Silvery Barbs, even if we want to be a bit more sparing with how we cast it. Both it and Sentinel at Death’s Door require our reaction, meaning if we use one we can’t use the other in the same round. This just means we need to save Barbs for when we desperately need an enemy to fail a save, or on rounds where we can be assured that our side won’t be taking any bad attacks that would be devastating as a crit.
Magic Initiate (Lv 8): So let’s talk about how to abuse Path to the Grave. First, determine who in your party has the ability to make the strongest single attack, be that a spell attack or weapon attack. Remember, we are looking for single hits, so things like Eldritch Blast or a Gloom Stalker making 6 attacks on the first round don’t fit the bill. Any Rogue or Paladin will do for this, some blade pact Warlocks can do good, and many specialized builds can also fill this role. Next, hold your action in combat to do Path to the Grave at the start of your ally’s turn. This ensures that they are the one to take advantage of the damage boost and it doesn’t accidentally get triggered before their turn. Now, use the familiar you got through this feat to give them advantage on their attack. Now, tell your friend to dump every resource they have into that strike, and watch as a crater forms in place of whatever poor sap you just doomed to obliteration. Have fun!
Resilient Constitution (Lv 12): This plus War Caster will ensure we don’t drop concentration basically ever. Make sure you set your Constitution to an odd score at character creation so you round up to a new modifier with this feat.
