Best Feats for Forge Cleric 5e
by Prince Phantom
The Forge domain is one whose features provide ample defense, but whose expanded spell list is a highlight reel of great offensive spells like Wall of Fire and Animate Objects. This allows the Forge Cleric to function as a tank and a powerful damage dealer, though probably not through the use of weapons, as we have no real incentive to use them.
I’d definitely recommend taking the optional Tasha’s feature at 8th level rather than the standard one for this subclass, so we get some extra damage on our cantrips. Our feat selection will probably lean defensive, as there aren’t really any feats to improve the offensive capabilities of spells.
Best Feats for Forge Cleric 5e
War Caster (Lv 4): The feat no cleric should leave home without, War Caster reads like it was built for clerics. The concentration protection would be good enough on its own, and the somatic component clause is basically necessary if you do plan to hold a weapon.
Telekinetic (Lv 4): The perfect combo with Spirit Guardians, allowing you to inflict the damage on a target twice in one round by pulling them into the area. The bonus to our wisdom and Mage Hand are great bonuses as well.
Fey Touched (Lv 8): This subclass is not super dependent on enemies failing saves, so we may not have quite as much use for Silvery Barbs as others, but we should probably still pick it up to assist our other party members. Misty Step fills a hole in the cleric spell list, that being the lack of any teleportation spells.
Magic Initiate (Lv 8): Find Familiar is just a really good spell. Don’t bother picking this feat for basically anything else, it is no longer worth a feat without it. Also don’t pick up any offensive cantrips as you’ll have to use intelligence to cast them and just stick with the great utility options available to wizard.
Resilient Constitution (Lv 12): The final assurance for our concentration protection, this feat will basically ensure we pretty much never fail a concentration check. As always, set your scores so this rounds you up to a new modifier.
Ritual Caster (Lv 12): Picking Wizard gives you access to basically every good ritual in the game and can add a lot of utility to an otherwise very combat focused subclass. Make sure to talk with your DM about acquiring more rituals as you progress through the campaign.
