Adamantine Armor 5e

Adamantine Armor 5e

Armor (medium or heavy, but not hide), uncommon

This suit of armor is reinforced with adamantine, one of the hardest substances in existence. While you're wearing it, any critical hit against you becomes a normal hit.

Commentary by Sam West, Twitter: @CrierKobold

Adamantine is a fantasy material. In D&D, it's one of the hardest known substances. The armor made from it is a pretty common reward, being universally uncommon regardless of the armor type it affects.

  • Adamantine armor, regardless of type, turns critical hits into regular hits.

  • If something would critically hit you with an attack that would otherwise miss, you still suffer a normal hit, as the critical hit becomes a normal hit after determining whether the attack hits or misses.

  • Adamantine is a quality of mineral that indicates luster, like polished diamonds, in the real world.

  • Only Medium and Heavy armor can be Adamantine.

  • Hide is the only Medium armor type that can’t be Adamantine.

  • The best Medium Adamantine Armor is Breastplate or Half-Plate with Breastplate giving you 1 less AC, but not penalizing your Stealth checks.

  • The best Heavy Adamantine Armor is Plate.
