The air quivers around up to five creatures of your choice that you can see within range. An unwilling creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw to resist this spell. You teleport each affected target to an unoccupied space that you can see within 120 feet of you. That space must be on the ground or on a floor.

I think I have a huge bias in this game; I’m a sucker for teleportation effects. The fantasy of just blipping out of one space and into another appeals to me more than any other superpower you can imagine. Scatter takes the baseline teleportation effects like Misty Step and Dimension Door built for transporting just one or two people and adds in a whole bunch more. Not only that, it offers you a tool for teleporting hostile creatures to other, separate locations.
Upper level teleportation magic like this always poses the question “how many more scenarios will I want this over Misty Step or Dimension Door” and when it’s only moving one or two creatures I think the answer tends to be few. In Scatters case, it’s TONS. This spell lets you grab whoever you need to within 30 feet of you and put them exactly where they want to be within an 120 foot area. Going from teleporting a plus one to the entire party has major upside, and can offer an exceptional tool for infiltration and escape missions alike.
On top of that, this can outright end some encounters with a few bad saves. Hazardous environments can be weaponized in all kinds of different ways with Scatter. If the hazard is on the ground or ground adjacent, chances are you can set up some horrific outcome for the target.
The best part? You get to do BOTH at once if you want! Teleport the vrock to the base of the frozen waters below the ice while you and three of your friends bounce out of there! Shunt the dread knights 120 feet away from your druid they’re massacring while getting the druid an extra 120 feet out the other way. Scatter is useful in all the ways I want teleportation to be, and then goes above and beyond with near limitless utility if you can keep creatures relatively close to you. If you’re given a chance and like other teleport effects, you absolutely should try this out.
